Mustang
Richard
Smith
Steve Swinford
(Wild Horse Crossing)
They first
came to this country
Landed first upon her shores
The Spanish Barb was pure bred
By the Conquistadors
To carry
her proud riders
While they conquered this fair land
And they became part of
Old Nevadas sage and sand
Like Mule
deer on the mountain
Or the Sage hen on the flat
Like the Mustang fits Nevada
Like the dust on an old black hat
They made
mounts for the Indian
And they packed the U.S. Mail
They crossed the Rio Grande
And come up the Chisum Trail
They survived
the settler
The sodbuster with his plow
They we here before we came
It aint right to kill them now
They deserve
the grass they eat
And the country where they roam
They helped settle this great land
And Nevada is their home
